It was Card School on Monday this week. We snook in a conversation, prompted by the cards, all about why making time to think is so important to us.
You can listen to our musings and we encourage you to have your own as you listen.
We try to answer this question: What do we think makes the difference in the way we make time to think and to do?
- You’ll hear us explain why we rarely give up the time we have planned in for thinking
- Kate will describe how she accesses ‘all of the brain power’
- We talk about how ease helps us to take notice
- We explore ‘iteration’ and practical things about making space and making a start
“We can either think now, or we can think later.”
- We consider regularity & frequency, and making thinking routine
- And then there are HVAs
- Being purposeful & intentional
- Thinking in the presence of the attention of others
- How using the cards while we think give us something to show for our efforts (if you want to make thinking more of ‘a doing’
- Why no one should feel guilty about thinking, ever
- Changing the “I’m busy” response
- Having a gap between your limit and your load
- And finally….
What IS the opposite of busy?
What do you make of all that? What do you think? And what are your thoughts?
Card School happens on the last Monday of every month. If you want to come along you can book your spot here https://www.clearthinkinguk.com/events/

Lovely to listen to you both, I made a little recording of my thoughts in response…

Love your musings Wendy. Thinking is such an adventure!
This post on Instagram attracted a lovely response from Tash at Unassuming Radicals https://www.instagram.com/p/CbuHb4Moy4A/
Sounds like another good card school! Noticing the ‘busy’ comment above reminds me of a quote that stood out for me from John Green’s book The Anthropocene Reviewed (well worth a read & there’s a podcast too!). In the chapter on Whispering he notes “Being busy is a way of being loud.” I like that thought, and have certainly come across people who’ve not only been very busy but also very keen to share how very busy they are…
Hey @katie-driver, thanks for dropping in.
What a wonderful way to express busyness…”a way of being loud.” I love that thought. The BBC podcast, Oliver Burkeman Is Busy, just popped into my head on the back of that. I remember him talking about ‘busy as a badge of honour’ which feels a little similar.
At Card School I mentioned that you said, “you can either think now, or think later,” hence it’s appearance in the text above because it really struck us as important. See, you even fuel our thinking when you’re not there. How magical is that? Have a lovely weekend, see you Monday!
P.S. And I simply CANNOT buy any more books ;0) I may be able to handle a podcast though! Thank you for recommending.
