THINK LIKE A LEADER

with Bev & Kate and featuring Guy Unsworth

Think Like a Leader is a short, yet powerful course that helps you to think deeply about the kind of leader you choose to be.

Unlike some traditional leadership approaches, it is NOT our intention to tell you what to do or think, but rather to help you to tune in and listen to your own built-in wisdom, to value your personal experiences and to mine them for the treasures they hold.

The course is flexible. You can engage with the content on your own terms – finding the right time place and pace to give it your best attention and get the most from it.

It will provoke fresh ideas and different thinking – both from the course content and from within you. You’ll be encouraged to view your situation from an entirely new perspective and refine your own approach to leadership. You’ll feel more secure in your leadership style, more excited about experimenting with different ways of leading, and more comfortable in dealing with the challenges and opportunities you face as a leader.

What is Think Like A Leader?

Think Like A Leader is the signature course in The School of Thought, our latest innovation.

The course is the result of the collision of two different worlds, those of Theatre and People Development. We have found that inspiration often strikes when we look in unusual places.

We’ve built a course that is super-flexible and puts you in control of your learning. Download and listen on the go, or stay at your desk to immerse yourself in its contents.

It has been designed to spark your own freshest thinking about leadership, steering away from telling you how to do it, and leaving theory behind to explore and value your ‘lived experience’ of leading and being led.

We give you a reason to allocate the space and time to reflect deeply on how you lead, and to ask yourself the kind of questions that bring new insights and ideas for actions that are perfectly suited to you.

Why is it important?

Be curious

Be human

Be bold

Be thoughtful

Leading people is a tricky business, as the other human beings we hope will follow us, don’t have an instruction manual. It’s hard to know what to say sometimes. You worry about saying and doing the right thing, and fear saying and doing the wrong thing. You’re not sure what makes people tick, so inspiring them to achieve great results is unfathomable sometimes.

Working alongside others, and leading others well, involves being bold, curious, human and thoughtful. It’s almost an art that you dedicate yourself to, honing your skills and your approach. And everyone has an expectation about how you should do it!

You might have noticed that when you follow the advice of others, the result falls short of what you want or need. It’s because your situation is totally unique and you face new and challenging circumstances all the time.
You’ve probably got an ambitious workload, a lengthy to-do list and a shortage of time and maybe even a shortage of resource, whether that’s money or people, and so, the pressure is on.

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, doing what you’ve always done because its quick, comfortable and easy. You might be aware that there are other options available to you, but you don’t have time to think about the possibilities, and sometimes you’re not brave enough to experiment….what if it goes wrong?

You are dedicated to your role, and you want to perform at your best, have a positive impact on your organisation and be remembered for being a leader people loved to follow, but you don’t have the time to think about how you might be different and do different.

How does Think Like A Leader help?

Think Like A Leader
The course has been designed to confront and stretch your current thinking around leadership. It challenges your assumptions and prompts you to notice the old and outdated thinking that no longer serves a purpose.

It gives you the time and the space to consider what might replace it, helping you uncover something that is fresh, relevant and aligned to you as a leader.

This course looks at leadership through the lens of six different situations. You’ll probably have found yourself in a similar circumstance at one time or another; there will be some aspect of the stories you hear that will resonate with you.

Think Like A Leader offers ideas from an industry that may be very different to your own, and it seeks to demystify leadership so that you can find ease in your own leadership role.

You will find that the course might validate your current approach, giving you reassurance that you’re doing-the-right-thing. Or it might challenge you to question how you lead, and cause you to consider if there is another way to get the results you want.

Think Like A Leader is underpinned by the philosophy that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to leadership, and you already know so much about the subject anyway. You’ve experienced other leaders leading you, and maybe dabbled in leadership roles, or perhaps you have been leading others for a long time. You already have wisdom and insight in this area of your work and life, but perhaps you haven’t taken the time to uncover your own thinking and to clarify what seems to be true for you.

If you are willing to think and be inspired by the course, you’ll begin to find a way of ‘being’ a leader that suits you. You may want to take drastic action as a result, or perhaps you will make some subtle changes. None of us ‘do’ leadership. It’s a ‘being’ thing, so you may find that your thinking shifts so fundamentally that you start to behave differently without the need to force a change.

Each of us has the capacity to have a profound impact on the people around us, at work and in life. You may have been led to believe that leadership is difficult, or a burden and takes heaps of effort and requires you to follow models and steps.

We want to introduce you to the possibility that your work as a leader is one of the ways you can express your brilliance as a human being and use it’s privilege as an opportunity to inspire others to create and achieve amazing things….

…by thinking for yourself and as yourself!

What others are saying...

Students have told us that the course has caused them to stop and think deeply about their own leadership style. They love the pace of it. And found the flexibility of being able to listen to it any time, anywhere beneficial.

They have told us that it feels different to other courses on the same subject. The content surprised them, it wasn’t predictable.
